Chitwood to Pray Before Governor’s Speech

Dr. Paul Chitwood, executive director of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, will be leading the opening prayer for a joint session of the state General Assembly called to hear the governor’s annual State of the Commonwealth address at 7 p.m. Eastern tonight (Jan. 4) at the state capitol building in Frankfort.

The speech will air on KET and be streamed on the Internet.

The governor’s speech is an important one this year. In addition to other items, he is expected to push a constitutional amendment to expand gambling in Kentucky with as many as nine casinos. Please pray that the General Assembly will be wise to reject the huge lobbying effort by the gambling corporations to put such a burden on our state’s economy. Casinos are basically economic vacuum cleaners that drain the pockets of businesses and families wherever they are located. The proposal is terrible public policy and needs to be defeated.
