Associations Stand Against Gambling

Two Kentucky Baptist associations have taken action in the past week to oppose gambling expansion efforts:

  • The South District Baptist Association Executive Board voted unanimously Jan. 9 to oppose an expansion of gambling in the Commonwealth and have communicated the association’s stand to area legislators. Jim Clontz serves as director of missions in this association.
  • Likewise, the Boone’s Creek Baptist Association‘s Executive Board voted to send out letters to all representatives and senators in a nine-county as well as to all pastors in the area. John Ryder serves as director of missions for this association. In part, the association’s letter to legislators reads: “We ask you to seek economic solutions to the state budget shortfall that does not include any form of gambling.”

All Kentucky citizens and groups that are concerned about the damage that will be done by casinos to our economy and culture need to be contacting their legislators now.

Please call the toll-free Legislative Message Line at (800) 372-7181 and leave a kind but firm phone message for your state senator. (The receptionist will help you with who your senator is when you tell her your county). Leave this message: “Stand against any expansion of gambling.”

The message line is open 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. EST Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday.
