Barbourville Citizens Vote to Remain Dry

Congratulations to the citizens of Barbourville on their decision yesterday to block alcohol sales in the city. City residents rejected a push to make Barbourville wet by a tally of 55 percent “no” to 45 percent “yes,” according to The Mountain Advocate newspaper in Knox County. Final vote tallies for the local option election were 591 against to 484 in favor.

Several other Kentucky cities have elections coming up soon as well. The cities of Corbin and London will have elections on whether to expand alcohol sales beyond restaurants while Williamsburg has a restaurants-only alcohol vote March 20. Corbin voters will cast ballots on Feb. 14. London’s special election is set for March 6.

Of Kentucky’s 120 counties, nearly a third are dry.
