Kentucky General Assembly Opens Session

Kentucky Capitol Building

Please be in prayer for the Kentucky General Assembly as it opens its session tomorrow (Jan. 4). The legislators will begin with a week of organizational meetings and will then come back Feb. 5-March 22 for the bulk of the work of this short 30-day session.

Serving in the General Assembly is not an easy task and is sometimes a thankless one. Most legislators make their living through other work and do their House or Senate work as an add-on responsibility. It’s the kind of position where no matter what stance a legislator takes on any particular issue, there’s bound to be someone out there who disagrees and will let them hear about it in no uncertain terms. Thick skin is a job requirement.

As you pray, ask that God will grant each legislator wisdom and discernment and that all will be sensitive to His leading as they make decisions this session. Pray especially for Senate President David Williams, R-Burkesville, and House of Representatives Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, as they lead their respective legislative branches. Pray also for Gov. Steve Beshear as he and the legislators seek to work together for the betterment of our state.
